यौन व्यक्तित्व व्यक्ति की शख्सियत को परिवेष्ठित करने वाला महत्वपू्र्ण पहलू होता है। हम अपने बारे में क्या सोचते हैं, हम दूसरों के साथ कैसे संबंध रखते हैं और दूसरे हमें कैसे लेते हैं, इसमें लैंगिकता महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाती है।
इसमें दो राय नहीं कि अंगघात शीरीरिक क्रिया-कलापों, संवेदनों और अनुक्रियाओं समेत व्यक्ति की लैगिकता को प्रभावित करती है। इससे मतलब नहीं कि अंगघात आंशिक है या संपूर्ण। यौन आनंद संभव है। लकवाग्रस्त औरतें संतानें पैदा कर सकती हैं, लकवाग्रस्त मर्द पिता बन सकते हैं। लकवाग्रस्त लोग स्नेही और स्थायी संबंध बना सकते हैं।
प्रयोग और खुली बातचीत अपने यौन व्यक्तित्व को सफलतापूर्वक पुनर्परिभाषित करने की कुंजी है। इससे यौनक्रिया और अलिंगी अनुक्रिया की कायिक संरचना और कार्य को समझने में मदद मिलती है। इससे उपयुक्त संसाधनों और जानकार स्वास्थ्य रक्षा व्यवसायिकों या सलाहकारों से संपर्क करने और उपलब्ध विकल्पों में सबसे उपयुक्त विकल्प का उपयोग करने मे भी मदद मिलती है।
पैरालिसिस रिसोर्स सेंटर ने यौन स्वास्थ्य खंड को लिंग के आधार पर विभाजित किया है। मर्दों की लैंगिकता वाले खंड में पुरुषों की यौनक्रिया और अंगघात के प्रभाव शामिल हैं। स्त्रियों की लैंगिकता वाले खंड में संततिजनन और बच्चों की देख-रेख समेत स्त्रियों की यौनक्रिया संबंधी मूलभूत जानकारियां शामिल हैं।
